Had a wonderful experience getting a "Brazilian / Keratin Straightening - Medium Length Hair, Trim" appointment with Solange. Originally, I was incorrectly booked under "long length hair" instead of "...medium length hair", which I raised with Solange, and she swiftly rectified. She kindly took the time to break down the pricing for me, so I knew exactly what I was paying for before the treatment began. She then went on to explain what the appointment entailed, what products were going to be used, what process was and how long the appointment was going to be. During the treatment she regularly checked up on me when I had the product in my hair, and during the trim and subsequent styling I felt heard when deciding on what l'd like my hair to look like. Solange also told me a little more about my current hair health, and gave me tips how ! can achieve my hair goals (longer and healthier hair). You can tell that she is very passionate about what she does! In the end, Heft feeling confident land also informed] with my freshly treated and trimmed hair. If you do decide to Afrotherapy for this treatment, ask for Solange! Note: "Brazilian / Keratin Straightening" is a LONG process, aim to book your appointment as early as possible if you need to go somewhere after. Shantay made me feel extremely at ease,...was polite and clear on the process and the outcome that would be achievable for my full head of highlights. One the day of my appointment we discussed the different options and what would work best for me and from start to finish I throughly enjoyed the experience and the finished results. From the advice given on how best to care for the colour to recommendations on products to use for some breakages I have been dealing with. I absolutely love my hair and everyone at the salon was super friendly. I can\'t fault the hairstyle or the advice I was given about my hair. I genuinely love the style and colour. I think the salon c...ould do better with communicating costs and offers. As a new customer I was not offered the 30% new client discount when I was booking my first appointment. I would have ensured to take up this offer and book my appointment on a day when I could redeem this. While I was informed that there might be a difference between what I was quoted for the style (I ended up with a finger coil which I found out when I requested the itemised bill was £65) what I was not expecting was to pay more for the colour. I ended up paying £30 more for the colour. While I understand that there might be differences between what a client is quoted and the actual price, I think it is really important to inform the client when certain decisions are being made and what difference this will make to the cost. It was only when I got home that I realised I had been charged an extra £30 for the colour and I don\'t know why this was the case. I spent a lot of money at the salon (more than I have ever done in the past) so I think it\'s important to be kept informed of the charges (both in terms of services and products) and be given an itemised bill as a matter of course. I had to request this. As I say, I love the style, I was just really thrown with the overall cost and the difference between what I was quoted and what I ended up paying, but also the overall approach to this. read more

I have been looking for a salon that specialises with Toddlers and use chemical free products for a long time. Thank God I found Afrotherapy and Riana, Salon is clean and calm and made me myself compl...etely at ease. I showed Riana a picture of the style my daughter chose and the result was even better, this took 2.5 hours as you can imagine , its hard for me to make my daughter seat still for 15mins , and Riana interacted with my daughter and achieved this milestone. It was my first time at the salon ,I was a little nervous as i didn’t know what to expect but left having a good experience and i’m happy with my new hair cut/look (I got a tapered cut), the owner /he...ad stylist at the Salon Harriet was very nice to talk to and was reassuring, which made me feel comfortable to voice out what I wanted with the haircut I was going for, throughout the process of getting my hair done Harriet asked me how i felt about the direction of my haircut and if was happy with how it looked, how short I wanted it etc. I enjoyed getting my hair washed, my hair is type 4, high destiny hair (medium to thick strands) i have had past hair salon experiences where my natural hair wasn’t handled with care however at Afrotherapy that wasn’t the case it was one of the most relaxing washdays I’ve had. The other staff at the salon where lovely as well and the atmosphere of the salon was lovely, relaxing music, clean and simple design of the salon. A couple things I didn’t like as much was being told to change my original booking time to an earlier time, I’m based in south east london and the Salon is in North , pretty long journey, this meant not only did have to leave early , which initially planned to do but I felt added pressure which made me super anxious, which also meant had to rush m my journey to the salon (it didn’t help that there was traffic in the area going to the salon), Harriet explained why I needed to come to the salon earlier than I had planned due to the fact she needed to check the condition of my hair prior to my haircut and also asked for photos of my hair on the day of the appointment. Looking back I wish these 2 requests were made a day before or a couple days before my hair appointment so I didn’t feel so anxious on the day of my hair appointment, this is something that could be improved on to help with customer experience with the salon, if customers where given necessary info well in advance if possible . There was also a time I was left under the dryer for what I felt was a bit too long , it started to get slightly uncomfortable with the heat and although Harriet did finally check on me and my hair to see if it was dry (my hair was being set for a bantu knot out hairstyle with my tapered cut), I wished she would’ve of told me an estimate time for how long I would be under the drier or if i could take some breaks in between ( but that’s on me for not speaking up). Overall I did have a good first time experience at Afrothe read more

I relaxed, cut and styled my hair here and honestly the experience was lovely! Friendly and professional staff. My hair is bouncy and smooth I can’t stop running my fingers through it.

I made an appointment over the phone said what I wanted done, and was given a price, I was ask for a deposit, which I paid. My appointment was at 10.00 that was put back to 11.00 I was not seen until...just before 12.00 noon. When my hair was done the price was doubled I pointed out that i payed a deposits she just said 'yes i know'. The problem of over charging lies with the owrners not the stylist. The same over charging happened to me before I thought it might just be s fluke, its a shame because I like two support Black Businesses I will not be going to this salon again They should be careful that the trading standard don't come in for a hair cut read more

Ok I have a couple of points. I have natural hair and came to your salon and had my hair done by Isabel. I would just like to say ammmmazzzing job. Thank you very much Isabel. Isabel, took me through...my hair regimen, she highlighted the good things I was doing but also told me about other things I was doing that was not suited to my hair type. I also learnt they way to use the products for my hair type. I had my hear pressed (first time.) She was very gentle looked after my tresses. The way she blow dryed the hair meant not to too much heat was applied with the straighteners. Which is fab. I have been doing my workouts and along with the products regime she recommended my hair is still looking fantastic. (5 days old) Very happy so far. Although slightly pricey. I had an excellent service and was pleasantly surprised. I will definitely be spreading the word. I just made an appointment online, however I think there needs to be more options for the natural hair or a free text option as I had to select something I did not want. so will have to call to change that, therefore wasted time booking online. I have mixed race curly hair and had really bad experiences in hair salons. Afrotherapy has good reviews so I was willing to try. I have booked a shampoo, cut and styling with Harriet. The staff was p...olite and welcoming. I really like that she took the time to listen to my needs and she tried to understand my curls pattern. She explained how she will proceed, proposed a treatment and gave me the cost before she starts. I agreed so no big surprises at the till at the end (like in other places where you have no clue if they will make you pay or not the extra conditionner they are using on your head... And they always make you pay that extra!!). She took care of me herself from the shampoo to the till at the end, checked if I was ok, explained what she was doing and gave me advices! I have exactly what I have asked for so I am really happy. I will definitely go back, even if it is a bit pricey. I prefer paying more to have a better service and not going home straight after to wash my hair and try to "fix" it!!! read more

Felton is brutally honest about your hair and its conditions which is so helpful, as it's kind of difficult to find honest hairdre...ssers sometimes. They consulted me with this microscopic camera that showed how weak my hair was at the frontnof my hair, it was absolutely amazing.... They showed me the impurities and build up of silicone on my hair that instantly made me wash and get a treatment with some new natural products, and hopefully I will have amazing things to say about this haven that fell into my lap. I've been going to Afrotherapy for just over 12mths now and on each visit the experience gets better. The assistant checked my hair and asked what I wanted to achieve from my request, then explained w...hat I could expect from the recommended treatment. I had my first taste of the Strenghtening Treatment which included an excellent Indian Head Massage which was unexpected but great. So far it's lived up to my expectations as my scalp and hair look silky and feel great. I had a quick trim to keep my current style in check. I also brought along some clip in extensions that I wanted to get cut to a more manageable length. My stylist was great and got to work quickly, I sat in the chair grinning like a Cheshire cat while she worked her magic on my fake locks. I left the salon with a new head of hair, one set detachable and the other one real & permanent, both made be feel fantastic. This was my first time visiting the salon, I had heard about it from a friend and once I saw the transformation in her hair I just had to go. Had the best service you could get from a professional salon. Highly experienced and trained staff that give you practical advise about home hair care and products that will do the job. High standard...of customer care very time I like the fact they offer a saving system which I pay monthly as I then do not have to keep worrying about finding the money to get my hair done. And because afro caribbean hair is high maintenance this helps tremendously, as I fit in my monthly direct debit payment within my monthly outgoings so it has now becomes part of my monthly budgeting. I love the rinse that was used on my visit, its really brought out the red in my hair, and having it dried with a brush has made my hair feel really light.

I must admit I do not normally participate in ratings, however my experience at Afrotherapy compels me to make this an exception, particularly since my experience with Afrotherapy was better than I ha...d expected. Having not been to a hairdressers for the last 5 years since having had a bad experience when my hair was severely damaged through it being overprocessed with the wrong type of relaxer and colouring for my hair, I was therefore extremely cautious in finding a suitable and competent hairdresser. I came across Afrotherapy through doing some online research and although I had previously earmarked a couple of other hairdressers to check out they were immediately removed from my checklist once I found Afrotherapy and read their reviews. Admittedly I was a bit apprehensive in choosing a hairdressers that way as I would normally go through personal recommendations. I was given a thorough consultation and both Chris and Joseph came across as very professional and who definitely knew their stuff where hair is concerned. Ultimately I was extremely pleased with the result of the relaxer and colouring I received from Joseph and ditto with the cut and style I received from Chris. I enjoy coming to Afrotherapy and I am really happy with the service and advice I receive, but do feel that because my scalp is quite itchy I would like to have at least 2/3 shampoos whenever I have a... service done, as I normally find that 3 days after my visit my scalp is itching again even after using scalp products, so if possible it would be great to have a note or comment on my profile regarding how I'd like my hair washed going forward. The service experienced at Afrotherapy is second to none. From the moment you enter greeted by usually one of the owners to taking your coat having you seated and light easy conversation is all the li...ttle things that make up the experience. All the employees are fully competent and I'm more than happy for either stylists to touch my hair although i do have my favourite! if i had to sum up Afrotherapy it would be like the 'afro-carribean version of Paul Mitchell/Toni & Guy only better with a spiritual feel!!!'You have to go for the experience as well as the quality of knowledge and know-how these guys have, i mean i ALWAYS look good after! 🙂 read more
