It was my first time at the salon ,I was a little nervous as i didn’t know what to expect but left having a good experience and i’m happy with my new hair cut/look (I got a tapered cut), the owner /head stylist at the Salon Harriet was very nice to talk to and was reassuring, which made me feel comfortable to voice out what I wanted with the haircut I was going for, throughout the process of getting my hair done Harriet asked me how i felt about the direction of my haircut and if was happy with how it looked, how short I wanted it etc. I enjoyed getting my hair washed, my hair is type 4, high destiny hair (medium to thick strands) i have had past hair salon experiences where my natural hair wasn’t handled with care however at Afrotherapy that wasn’t the case it was one of the most relaxing washdays I’ve had. The other staff at the salon where lovely as well and the atmosphere of the salon was lovely, relaxing music, clean and simple design of the salon. A couple things I didn’t like as much was being told to change my original booking time to an earlier time, I’m based in south east london and the Salon is in North , pretty long journey, this meant not only did have to leave early , which initially planned to do but I felt added pressure which made me super anxious, which also meant had to rush m my journey to the salon (it didn’t help that there was traffic in the area going to the salon), Harriet explained why I needed to come to the salon earlier than I had planned due to the fact she needed to check the condition of my hair prior to my haircut and also asked for photos of my hair on the day of the appointment. Looking back I wish these 2 requests were made a day before or a couple days before my hair appointment so I didn’t feel so anxious on the day of my hair appointment, this is something that could be improved on to help with customer experience with the salon, if customers where given necessary info well in advance if possible . There was also a time I was left under the dryer for what I felt was a bit too long , it started to get slightly uncomfortable with the heat and although Harriet did finally check on me and my hair to see if it was dry (my hair was being set for a bantu knot out hairstyle with my tapered cut), I wished she would’ve of told me an estimate time for how long I would be under the drier or if i could take some breaks in between ( but that’s on me for not speaking up). Overall I did have a good first time experience at Afrotherapy, especially considering it had been years since I stepped into a black salon let alone one that would cater to my natural hair. Yes the pricing is expensive but for me this was a self care moment to get my hair professionally taken care of and rock a new hair cut, the pricing was definitely something I considered and was a little indecisive about initially when booking at this salon but then again looking at other similar hair salons I saw that it was similar pricing for the service I got.

Hi,
I have African hair and have three question to ask.
First I got a perm three years ago and now is the time to retouch it but i am questioning if i should go natural.
My natural hair is much stronger and healthier than my permed hair but the only reason i have it is cause its easier to maintain what should i do? Second my hair line is fading cause of the constant braiding what should i do to help my hairline grow and also make my hair grow longer and luscious? Third What should you do to swim with natural or permed hair without a swimming cap?
I was very impressed with your website and broad range of quality products.
However, very disappointed that upon attempting to call the salon on three consecutive ocasions Saturday; I was unable to get through.
Accessibility is extremly important as is good customer service.
Kind regards
Hi Claire, thank you for your feedback. Please note that we are closed on Saturdays. We are open from Sunday to Friday. You can find our full opening and closing times here:

Hello Salon
Ok I have a couple of points. I have natural hair and came to your salon and had my hair done by Isabel. I would just like to say ammmmazzzing job. Thank you very much Isabel. Isabel, took me through my hair regimen, she highlighted the good things I was doing but also told me about other things I was doing that was not suited to my hair type. I also learnt they way to use the products for my hair type.
I had my hear pressed (first time.) She was very gentle looked after my tresses. The way she blow dryed the hair meant not to too much heat was applied with the straighteners. Which is fab. I have been doing my workouts and along with the products regime she recommended my hair is still looking fantastic. (5 days old) Very happy so far. Although slightly pricey. I had an excellent service and was pleasantly surprised. I will definitely be spreading the word.
I just made an appointment online, however I think there needs to be more options for the natural hair or a free text option as I had to select something I did not want. so will have to call to change that, therefore wasted time booking online.
Very pleased so far. I hope it lasts!!
Thank you for your feedback Melanie and we take on board your comments.

Hi.
Do you relax children’s hair? My daughter is 9.
Hi Maureen, our general policy is that we don’t relax children’s hair who are aged under 13. There may be other things you can do to soften her hair and make it more manageable. Please call us on 020 8345 5621 to book a consultation
Hi
I love the look of the salon. I have a major problem where I bought the photospecific relaxer index 1 for fine hair and i proceeded to do the relaxer but my hair still appears to be on the 4b/4c side with some softness. Im a bit frustrated since Im so busy, a working mother and was trying to make my life easy by perming my natural hair. I don’t know whether i have done more harm than good. I really need an analysis. I live near Croydon side so to trek up to Edmonton is approximately a 2 hour drive. I really need some advice since i was hoping for something a bit manageable.
Hi Raynette, thank you for your email and apologies for the delay in responding. As you can appreciate its difficult to make recommendations without seeing your hair. The best thing would be to book a Consultation. You can call us on 020 8345 5621

Hi,
I looked on your faux locs info page, but there are no listed prices (I did check the price list too). How much would it cost if they were a little below shoulder length and should I come in for a consultation first to be advised on what hair to buy, if my hair is suitable etc?
Thank you for your time!
Hi Lynda, faux locs start from £250
Hello, I wanted to know what my face shape is! I put a picture of me against Michelle Obama and we have the same shape face.
cheeks, smile, and the fold in our cheeks as we smile. What is her face shape? My face looks better when I wear my hair up with a bang (usually curl hanging down or a curly bang. I do not like cutting my hair, so I wear it like that. Show me what you have, I might try some of your suggestions. Thank you!
Hi Wilma, thank you for your email and apologies for the delay in responding. The best thing is to book a Personalised Consultation so we can take into account your hair type, texture, length etc. Please call 020 8345 5621 to book.

It starts from £250
Hi there
I lost my hair to chemo but it’s growing back.
It’s now about an inch long at its longest part and I would like to keep it fairly natural. For example having that curly look or wavy look without processing. Sorry I don’t know what they are called.
I previously had shoulder length hair which was relaxed for many years but I would now like a new/ more natural look.
My questions are, do you have stylist who are experienced with working with natural hair/ post chemo and would I have to pay for a consultation?
Thank you
Sharon
Hi Sharon, thank you for getting in touch with us and well done for coming through the chemo treatment. We work a lot with natural hair and we have also worked with clients who have been through similar circumstances as yourself.
I would suggest that you initially book a Consultation so we can have a look at your hair and what we can achieve. I would recommend to book with either Harriet or Michelle as they are the most experienced Stylists. Please call us on 020 8345 5621 to confirm an appointment

Hello,
My team and I are producing a music video promoting beauty of black women with their natural hair and were wondering if we might be able to negotiate a deal on hair products which we could use for the models/dancers on set? Also some professional advice on non harmful & natural products which you would recommend would be very much appreciated.
Kind regards
Hi Asher, Thank you for your email. Please call us on 020 8345 5632 to discuss further

Hello I would like to find out the price list for getting my hair relaxed.
Hi Amina,

FYI. This is not the salon to go to if you want to have a frontal sew-in. A lot of emphasis is put on them being “award winning” but when after 1 week you are left with your frontal moving and being unable to tie it up without it looking like false hair, the award winning results are not there to be found. Considering how much I paid for my weave and the frontal, and the service; the end result was terrible because I have now had to get rid of my frontal as they ruined it and obviously it cannot be used again. Would have appreciated it more if they had been honest and said that frontal were not their forte and would have saved myself the hassle and the money. When they install the weave it also takes them so long, I understand installing frontals can be difficult but I was in the salon from 2pm to 6:30pm? For why I don’t know. However, the staff are friendly and they seem to know what they are doing with natural hair and the treatments. Good luck!
Hi, I’m really sorry to hear your experience wasn’t to the standard we would normally expect of ourselves and our clients expect.
We are more than happy to re-do the weave. Please call or email me directly. 020 8345 5621 or email joseph@afrotherapy.com
