Why Black Women Greased Their Scalps

itchy scalp treatments, afrotherapy hairDid you know that black women used to grease their scalps with petroleum jelly to avoid getting fleas and ticks?  Most people tend to think that they used this special greasy product to grow their hair!

Having said that, the right oil can be perfect treatment if you have a dry or itchy scalp.  While we wouldn’t suggest you apply thick amounts of petroleum jelly (left), we do have a number of fantastic oils designed specifically for women with afro, naturally curly and multi-textured hair.  These include:

Mizani Comfiderm Oil

Its botanical-rich blend of nature’s own soothing agents and moisturisers soothes the scalp while reducing itching, flaking and dryness; and essential oils provide a natural source of vitamins. Versatile and fragrant, this soothing scalp oil relaxes, lubricates and restores balance to the hair and scalp.
